Innerspace Design is a woman owned Michigan Corporation established in 1996. Over the years IDI has built a reputation for high quality, innovative interior design solutions. We take pride in the relationships we form with our clients and work to build long term associations with them.

Innerspace has a diverse project range with extensive experience designing Senior Living Communities from Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing to Memory Care. We are also proficient in the design of Corporate Offices, Multi-Family Housing, Ecclesiastical Design and Hospitality.

PRESIDENT
BETSY SLUSSER
Betsy Slusser, a 35-year interior design veteran, founded Innerspace Design in 1996. Her firm has worked on a wide range of diverse projects from affordable senior living in Detroit to a 40,000 sq ft pickleball facility in Ann Arbor.
Over the past 28 years, Innerspace has grown steadily, thanks to a talented team of designers and Slusser's leadership in design, programming, space planning, and furnishings. She chose this photo because it is 10 years old and she was 20 lbs lighter.

EMILY UPHAUS
Emily Uphaus, a seasoned designer with over 23 years of experience, joined Innerspace Design in 2009. Over the past 15+ years, she has been instrumental in numerous key projects, solidifying Innerspace Design's position as a leading commercial design firm in southeast Michigan. And she hasn't taken a proper vacation since.

ABBEY STRALEY
Abbey Straley joined IDI in 2011 as a Senior Project Manager and Interior Designer. As a skilled designer and an integral part of the small Innerspace design team, Abbey has worked on countless projects in her 13 years at IDI, including acting as lead designer for Brio Living Services in Chelsea and Grand Rapids. A testament to her dedication, she balanced motherhood with her career, even giving birth to both of her children at her desk.

STEPHANIE HUNTLEY
Stephanie joined the Innerspace team in 2017, bringing a wealth of design experience and talent. Like Emily and Betsy, Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University, a FIDER-accredited institution. In her 7 years at IDI, she has applied her expertise to numerous projects and is always a friendly face around the office. Even after 7 years, she is still considered the new girl.
BUSINESS MANAGER & ACCOUNTANT
Melissa Wild
Melissa has been a dedicated member of the Innerspace team since 2005, joining the company in her early twenties. Her extensive experience in account management has been instrumental in ensuring Innerspace's financial health and operational efficiency. Melissa's exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail have been invaluable in managing IDI and multiple other businesses through Complete Accounting Solutions. She consistently demonstrates a willingness to go above and beyond, readily taking on additional projects and volunteering her time to support others—someone get this woman a cape!
MARKETING MANAGER
Hannah Overhiser
All great companies need great marketing solutions. With over five years of experience helping diverse businesses achieve their marketing goals, Hannah joined Innerspace Design in 2024 to elevate the organization's marketing strategy, build its brand awareness, and figure out why the website was doing “that weird spacing thing”.
